Settle-Cave Report

Abstract

I HAVE just read with considerable astonishment Mr. Tiddeman's letter (NATURE, October 23) relating to an abstract which I never saw till to-day, and for which, therefore, I am not responsible. The whole question of the antiquity of cave deposits as well as that of those in the Victoria Cave, in particular is treated in my work on “Cave-Hunting,” shortly to be published, and therefore I see no reason for entering into any argument based on the distribution of the Pleistocene Mammalia, or to depart from my rule of not entering into a controversial correspondence.
