Abstract
IN the Davis lecture (NATURE, vol. xx. pp. 509), Prof. St. George Mivart remarks that kangaroos use their tails “to a certain extent in their long jumps.” This may either mean that the tail is used as a balance to the fore-part of the body—as, of course, is the case—or as a means of populsions. The latter is the natural inference to be drawn from the sentence.
