Abstract
BY the death of Sir George Carter, there passes one of the greatest figures in the shipbuilding industry of the last twenty years. He had been in ill-health for rather more than twelve months, but had not formally retired from his position of managing director of Messrs. Cammell Laird's famous shipbuild ing and engineering works at Birkenhead. Sir George Carter was trained at the Royal. Dockyard at Ports mouth, and furnishes another name on the list of great shipbuilders who have come from that excellent nursery, the Dockyard Schools.
