Abstract

December 18, 1879:—Huggins was a pioneer in the use of photography for the investigation of the physical condition of the stars. In 1864 he discovered that many of the nelulæ give spectra consisting of bright lines. In 18th he obtained a photograph of the spectrum of Vega; and three years later,. in a pape to the Royal Society, read on Dec. 18, 1879, he the ultra-violet spectra of white stars.
