RAMAN (Indian J. of Phys., 3, 357; 1928) and A. H. Compton (Phys. Rev., 35, 925; 1930) have calculated according to classical electrodynamics the scattering of X-rays by an atom in which the electrons are arranged with random orientation and with arbitrary radial distribution.
