Abstract
IT is quite evident from the call for a second edition of this book that public interest in the oil industry extends beyond markets. Written originally for the non-technical reader to convey “a judicious appreciation” of the work of a British oil company, apparently sales and certainly reviews commended the volume to the technologist, a source of gratification to its author, who modestly reiterates in his second preface its real purpose: to serve the general reader.
