Abstract
DR. ALFRED THEODORE MACCONKEY who died on May 17 at the age of seventy years, was known to bacteriologists in all parts of the world as the originator of the medium which bears his name. After taking his medical degrees in 1889, he settled in practice for some years, but relinquished it in consequence of an illness, and decided to devote himself to research work in bacteriology.
