Abstract
THE publication in book form of the reviews which have been appearing for several years in the Zeitschrift für Krystallographie will be warmly welcomed by those interested in the structure of crystals. The book contains a survey of all work in this field from 1913, when the first analyses by X-ray methods were made, to the end of 1928. The older crystallography was mainly concerned with the external form and physical properties of crystals; its achievements are recorded in the five volumes of Groth's “Chemische Krystallographie”. The present volume makes a first step towards fulfilling the same function in the new field as Groth's monumental work in the old, and we owe a great debt to the authors for the immense amount of labour which must have been put into its compilation. Their task has been no easy one. Not only is the output of papers increasingly great every year, but also it is often difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff, and estimate from an author's account the reliance to be placed on his conclusions.
