Segregation of Cementite from Austenite

Abstract

THE formation of new phases in alloys by precipitation from solid solutions has recently been studied extensively.1 These studies have given experimental evidence indicating that when a precipitate forms as plates within a crystalline grain, the crystallographic plane to which the plate lies parallel is determined, not only by the lattice structure of the parent solid solution, but also by the lattice structure of the precipitate.
