Abstract
IT is tolerably well known that lac is a resinous substance secreted by a scale insect (family Coccidae) known as Laccifer lacca (Kerr.). The production of lac is virtually a monopoly of India and Burma. The greater amount of lac is produced in Bihar: outside India, lac is grown in small quantities in Ceylon, Java, Borneo, Malay States, Siam, China and Indo-China.
