Abstract
ON April 11-15, the University of Pavia honoured the memory of one of its greatest sons, Lazzaro Spallanzani (1729-1799). The celebrations took the form of a special meeting of the Italian Society of Experimental Biologists, to which a number of representative foreign men of science were invited, with closely associated and contemporaneous meetings of the Italian Botanical and Geological Societies, as well as a congress of veterinarians.
