Tryptophane as Precursor of Nicotinamide in Mammals

Abstract

Tryptophane can replace nicotinamide in the nutrition of the growing rat1 and when ingested increases the urinary elimination of nicotinamide derivatives of mammals and man2–6. The site and mechanism of this conversion of tryptophane into nicotinamide are unknown and form the subject of this investigation.
