Optical Rotation and Polypeptide Chain Configuration in Proteins

Abstract

OBSERVATIONS on the optical rotation of collagen and gelatin1, together with consideration of polarimetric data reported in the literature for these and other proteins2–6, have suggested the following simple hypotheses relating optical rotativity and polypeptide chain configuration:
