Abstract
THE first synthetic antimalarial that found a place in medicine was pamaquin (plasmochin), which is an 8-aminoquinoline derivative (I; X = CHCH3.[CH2]3; R1 = R2 = C2H5), and since its discovery more than twenty-five years ago1 many examples of the class have been prepared, of which some exceed pamaquin in antimalarial activity.
