Fusion Curve of Iron to 96,000 Atmospheres: Temperature of the Earth's Core

Abstract

A NUMBER of arguments have been advanced1 tending to show that the boundary of the Earth's core is molten iron, and the central part of the core is solid iron. If the Earth's core is composed of iron the solid phase of which near the melting point is the same as that at the surface, then a determination of the melting point of iron at about 1.4 × 106 atmospheres (the pressure at the boundary between the mantle and the liquid core) would set a minimum temperature for this depth within the Earth.
