Assimilation of Ammonia Nitrogen by Rumen Bacteria

Abstract

AMMONIA is always present in the rumen liquor of sheep1 and the concentration varies with the kind of protein in the ration, but the addition of starch-rich foods such as maize meal or flaked maize to high-protein rations depresses the concentration2–4.
