Abstract
COUMARIN (C6H4OCOH=CH) and closely related compounds are strong regulators of the germination and growth of seedlings of different species of plants1; the stimulatory2 or the inhibitory3,4 effect depends on the concentration of coumarin and on the species of plant tested. Unfortunately, there is almost no information concerning the effect of coumarin on the growth of micro-organisms5 and we have, therefore, carried out tests with Rhodotorula rosea.
