Abstract
PREVIOUS work has indicated that many of the vascular phenomena of inflammation (especially vasodilation and increased capillary permeability) may be attributed to the local release or activation of compounds with the appropriate pharmacological properties, for example, histamine, peptides or globulins1–5. A possibility that has received little or no attention is that injury may lead to the local destruction of vasoconstrictor compounds, thus enhancing the effect of released vasodilators.
