Abstract
PREVIOUS work has shown that antihistamine drugs protect against liver injury caused by a variety of agents1 both in the whole animal and in vitro. Judah has also shown that these compounds inhibit mitochondrial swelling in vitro, and has indicated a possible mechanism of action2,3. McLean4 has shown that the antihistamine ‘Phenergan’ will protect rats against nutritional liver necrosis and has demonstrated in vitro effects of this drug with slices cut from the livers of rats on necrogenic diets.
