Detection and Estimation of Squalene in Leaves

Abstract

SQUALENE, C30H50, was discovered in the liver oils of squaloid sharks by Tsujimoto1 and later found in olive oil by Thorbjarnarson and Drummond2. Values as high as 708 mgm. per 100 gm. have been reported by Fitelson3 with much lower values, 5–28 mgm., in several other vegetable oils. More recently, Fuhrmann4 reported a squalene content of 200 mgm. per 100 gm. in olive oil.
