Wart Structure of Gymnosperm Tracheids

Abstract

THE wart structure of mature tracheids was first described by Kobayashi and Utsumi1 and by Liese2. It was observed to consist of small excrescences (warts) (0&03–0.04µ diam.) on the inner surface of the cell wall. Subsequent surveys of the occurrence of these structures showed them to be of limited taxonomic significance3,4.
