Abstract
TOMATO black ring virus, first described by Smith1, received little further attention until the beet ringspot virus, reported by Harrison2, was found to be serologically related to it and to potato bouquet virus3,4. Smith and Short5 later isolated a strain of tomato black ring virus from lettuce and named it lettuce ringspot.
