Dynamic Contact Angles and Rates of Adsorption

Abstract

SEVERAL published papers have indicated that the contact angle varies with the velocity with which a fluid/fluid interface moves, or is caused to move, along a solid surface1–6. In particular, Ablett's results suggest that, under his experimental conditions, hysteresis is absent when the advancing angles, which increase with interfacial velocity, and receding angles, which decrease, are extrapolated to zero velocity.
