Abstract
DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC acid as a genetic material occupies a key position in the normal and abnormal behaviour of cells. The effect of ionizing radiation on DNA, both inside and outside the cell, is of importance for analysis of the effect of radiation on cells. Nucleic acids have absorption maxima in the range 257–261 mµ and the effect of denaturation induced by radiation would be to increase the value of the extinction coefficient in this wave-length region1.
