Normal Mitotic Activity and Karyotype of Leucocytes from Pernicious Anæmia Patients cultured in Vitamin B12-deficient Medium

Abstract

IN vitamin B12-deficiency there are profound alterations in the metabolism of the cell nuclei, as shown by the megaloblast phenomenon, the increase in the nuclear size in various tissues, and the hypersegmentation of the peripheral granulocytes. The basic cause of these phenomena appears to be blocked replication of deoxyribonucleic acid and cell division1,2.
