Abstract
VERY little is known about the suspended matter contributing to those turbid zones in the sea which occur well above the bottom. Recently, however, Ewing and Thorndike1 reported a layer containing 2.5 mg/l. of lutite at 4,030 m in the Sargasso Sea 160 m above bottom. They did not indicate any further characterization of their material.
