Protein Synthesis in the Absence of Cell Division during the Development of Artemia salina Embryos

Abstract

DURING pre-emergence development of encysted embryos of Artemia salina, differentiation and morphogenesis occur in the absence of cell division1, without an increase in protein and total nitrogen2 and without appreciable changes in the total amounts of DNA and RNA3. The present report demonstrates the occurrence of protein synthesis during this period of their development.
