Abstract
PREVIOUS studies in this laboratory have established that steroid hormones can be rendered antigenic by coupling them to proteins1. On immunization with the appropriate steroid–protein conjugate, antibodies to testosterone, cortisone, deoxycorticosterone, aldosterone, oestrone and progesterone were produced. Because hapten-inhibition studies were used successfully to elucidate the specificity of these antisera, it was decided to investigate the possibility of developing a procedure sufficiently sensitive for use in the assay of steroids.
