Abstract
SINCE the first report of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isoenzymes in human serum1 a variety of different techniques has been employed to demonstrate them in serum and tissues. There is general agreement, however, that heart muscle contains predominantly the fast-moving isoenzymes lactate dehydrogenase 1 and 2 and that these are present in increased quantities in the sera of patients who have suffered a myocardial infarction, remaining demonstrably elevated for 1–3 weeks after the onset of the attack2.
