Association between Pandalus borealis and Fine-grained Sediments off Northumberland

Abstract

THE deep-sea prawn, Pandalus borealis, is a north-boreal species. It is found in the North Atlantic, North Pacific and Arctic Oceans. It also occurs in the northern part of the North Sea, and populations off the Norwegian coast are exploited commercially1. On the British side of the North Sea, P. borealis occurs off northern Scotland and off Northumberland. The Northumberland population is probably at the southern limit of the range of this species2.
