Abstract
ACETIC anhydride causes dehydration of N-oxides of unsaturated pyrrolizidine alkaloid N-oxides to pyrrolelike derivatives1,2. I now report a similar reaction, brought about by ferrous iron (which has previously been reported to promote the dealkylation of some tert-amine oxides3,4).
