Bone Turnover Model based on a Continuously Expanding Exchangeable Calcium Pool

Abstract

The rate of mineralization of new bone has been worked out on the basis of a continually expanding exchangeable calcium pool. A model is proposed in which the serum specific activity at any time is determined by the combined effects of pool expansion on the one hand, and excretion and mineralization on the other.
