Abstract
VIRAL aetiology of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) has been suggested recently and the presence of high titres of measles haemagglutination-inhibiting (HI) antibodies in sera of SSPE patients has been reported frequently1,2. Reports of chromosome alterations in the course of viral infections3–8 prompted us to examine chromosome preparations from SSPE patients. This is a preliminary report on a study of specimens obtained from SSPE patients admitted to the First Clinic of Neurology and Psychiatry, Budapest.
