Cyclic 3′,5′-AMP and Uterine Contractility

Abstract

Hays and Vandemark1 observed decreased spontaneous motility of the bovine uterus after administration of adrenaline and partial or complete inhibition of the uterine response to oxytocin. Jensen and Vennerød2 reported inhibition of the uterine contraction to human urinary kinin after adrenaline. In neither case was the mechanism of this induced inhibition explained. Our experiments offer a possible explanation of this phenomenon and point out its physiological significance.
