Excision-repair Properties of an Escherichia coli Mutant deficient in DNA Polymerase

Abstract

An Escherichia coli mutant, extracts of which show no DNA polymerase activity, can excise pyrimidine dimers induced by ultraviolet irradiation. The increased radiation sensitivity of this strain is related to the extensive degradation of irradiated DNA.
