Polywater on Silica-free Substrates

Abstract

WE have shown1 that a form of polywater with a slightly different infrared spectrum from that obtained by Lippincott et al.2 can form between calcium fluoride optical flats. This led to the conclusion that –Si–O groups are not essential for the formation of polywater.
