The Perennial Dilemma of Science Policy

Abstract

“… Science on the scale it is pursued today is an integral part of the social organization of the State. Wherever he works, the man of science is a part of the machinery of State, and there is no real immunity of science from its political environment.” Nature had much to say on the organization of science between the two world wars.
