Abstract
FEW quantitative methods exist for assessing the effects of withdrawing morphine from addicted laboratory animals. The aim of the experiments described here was to assess whether a method which depends on the number of characteristic vertical jumps made by mice after morphine withdrawal1 could be used as a measure of the withdrawal syndrome. This simple method has now been found to give reasonably repeatable and consistent results.
