Abstract
SUCCESSFUL adaption by a species to a particular portion of diverse environment depends not only upon the physical characteristics of that environment, but also upon the reliability with which a particular set of characteristics is encountered. A high degree of specialization might be more advantageous when environmental factors occur predictably than when they do not.
