Relative abundances of positrons and antiprotons in the primary cosmic ray flux

Abstract

SHEN and Berkey1 calculated the ratio of antiprotons and positrons to be expected in the primary cosmic rays assuming that both components are the end products of proton-proton interactions, and pointed out that the observations of the positron spectrum would permit us to deduce the antiproton energy spectrum. Observations on the ratio e+/(e+ + e−) have been made2 in the 5–50 GeV range, and we have used the results to put an upper limit on pĖ„/p at various energies.
