Metamorphic belt and volcanic arc migration in New Zealand

Abstract

The Phanerozoic development of New Zealand can be viewed in terms of four eastward migrating cycles of closely similar character, all of which are related to westward dipping Benioff zones. Paired metamorphic belts are produced during the final stages of each cycle.
