Development of resistance to cytotoxicity during aflatoxin carcinogenesis

Abstract

IT is now some time since Haddow first suggested that an early stage in chemical carcinogenesis might involve the induction of cells resistant to the toxic action of the carcinogen1. Although it seems that many carcinogens also have acutely toxic properties, the relationship between these activities is largely unknown. We have investigated this relationship by using the mycotoxin aflatoxin B1, and shown that resistance is linked with proliferation of specific hepatocytes.
