During the past few years several publishers have produced series of books or pamphlets on specialist topics designed for use on undergraduate courses, particularly those in biological disciplines. Seven reviewers with experience of teaching such courses present here their impressions of the extent to which these series have been successful, in their particular fields, as additional, teaching material for students.
