Episodic granite plutonism in the Scottish Caledonides

Abstract

Boulders from a Lower Devonian conglomerate complete the record of a phase of Ordovician plutonism associated with island arcs and blue schist metamorphism, indicating high angle subduction. Following a phase of sedimentary accretion, late Silurian plutonism was the result of low angle subduction. The two granite suites have distinct isotopic trends.
