Figure 5

Expression of various adhesion molecules in psoriatic lesions and nonlesional skin. In psoriatic lesions, E-selectin was expressed by dermal vascular endothelium (A), but expression was not observed in nonlesional skin (B). The skin-homing marker, cutaneous lymphocyte antigen (CLA), was also prominently expressed on perivascular lymphocytes in psoriatic lesions (C), but not in nonlesional skin (D). Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM -1) was expressed by dermal endothelium and perivascular MNCs within psoriatic lesions (E) and endothelium within nonlesional skin (F). MNCs expressing LFA-1 were numerous within psoriatic lesions (G), but were rarely observed within nonlesional skin (H). (Immunoperoxidase technique; hematoxylin counterstain; magnification, × 400).
