In vivo, α3β1 integrin and Ln-5 are expressed in HCC but not in normal tissue. Frozen sections of normal liver and HCC tissue were processed for indirect alkaline phosphatase immunohistochemistry. In normal tissue, α3 integrin and Ln-5 were present in blood vessels in portal spaces (filled arrows), but were absent in the parenchyma (empty arrows). In HCC tissues, α3 integrin and Ln-5 were also expressed by liver cancer cells in the parenchyma (black arrows) (original magnification, × 200).
