T. cruzi infection down-regulates the CD8⁺ subclass of sDC. CD8⁻CD11c⁺ sDC (red), CD8⁺ cells (blue), and CD8⁺CD11c⁺ sDC (purple, arrowhead) are shown. CD8⁺CD11c⁺sDC were seen in the marginal and T-cell zones before inoculation (D0) and at Day 14 pi. At Day 14 pi, numerous CD8⁻CD11c⁺ sDC and CD8⁺CD11c⁺ sDC are seen in the red pulp and in the marginal zone but not in the T-cell zone. At Day 21 pi, many sDC were present but CD8⁺CD11c⁺ sDC disappeared completely. TZ = T-cell zone; MZ = marginal zone. Arrowhead: CD8α⁺ CD11c⁺ sDC in purple.
