Scale bars for A and B represent 50 μm. C, Phase contrast image of two vessels showing tip cells. D, Vessels were fixed and stained for F-actin with TRITC-phalloidin and for DNA with 4′, 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole. Actin-rich filopodia were observed at the tips of the vessels. No vessel lumens were visualized within the tip cells. Scale bars for C and D represent 20 μm.
