Mucinous carcinomas. Over the last decades, the rate of ovarian carcinomas diagnosed as primary mucinous carcinomas (Ca) has been progressively reduced because of the introduction of the borderline category of tumors; the segregation of metastatic adenocarcinomas, particularly of the large intestine and pancreas, that simulate primary ovarian tumors; and the finding that most mucinous ovarian tumors associated with ‘pseudomyxoma peritonei’ (PP) are secondary neoplams, often from the appendix.
