The average thickness was not significantly different in FGFR3 wild-type and mutant seborrheic keratoses, indicating that FGFR3 mutations occur both in flat and thick seborrheic keratoses. Thus, FGFR3 mutations appear to be early genetic events in the pathogenesis of at least a subset of seborrheic keratoses (mean values and 95% confidence intervals of the mean values are indicated).
